The Berkeley Law Foundation (BLF) is an
income-sharing organization comprised of Boalt students and alumni who are dedicated to providing legal
services to historically under-served communities. Started in 1976 by Boalt students, BLF was the first
organization of its kind in the nation.
The BLFs
primary goal is funding public interest law through summer grants for current Boalt students and
year-long grants
for law graduates and new attorneys from around the country. Our grants enable the recipients to work on innovative and critical
projects that provide desperately needed legal services to communities all around the nation.
Besides
providing crucial funding for legal services, BLF works to ensure
diversity in legal education and the profession. To this end, BLF
created the Phoenix Fellowship,
which provides several outstanding Boalt students of color funding
to do public interest legal work.
